Graduating from college can do funny things to some people. Moving from a very structured learning enviroment into the “real” world changes people for better or worse. After four years in school some people are all to eager to jump into a full time job so they can start making a solid paycheck…others have no choice due to looming student loans. In December of 2005 I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Fine Arts degree, concentrating in photography/graphic design. I found myself at an impasse, I could continue working construction or try to get a job fresh out of school working in the the photography industry. Finding a job in photo isn’t as easy as it sounds, and even if you do find some sort of work it usually involves sitting in front of a computer for hours on end processing someone else’s imagery. Neither prospect sounded as exciting as my friend Joe’s plans, he was moving out to southern california for a job offer and was looking for a couple of pals to tag along. In mid-january of 2006 three of us (joe, luke, and myself) set out on a cross country road trip. Joe, for a job, Luke, to contemplate a move, and me…just for the hell of it.
